This auditorium space has been introduced into the courtyard of the eighteenth century grade listed stable block at Nevill Holt, the country residence of one of the founders of Carphone Warehouse. The work involved the renovation of the stables, the demolition of later additions and the archaeological investigation and conservation of a medieval hospice, the remains of which lie under the stables. In addition, the courtyard was enclosed to form the auditorium and facilitate the introduction of an orchestra pit, stage, seating, lighting and the paraphernalia of an opera house. The encircling stable accommodation was converted into backstage facilities.
