The East London Sustainable Energy Facility is located within the site of Ford’s Dagenham motor works in London. In designing the facility for Novera Energy, Studio E worked closely with the client and process engineers to produce a series of buildings which, through their architectural treatment and massing, present a unified development; a ‘family’ of buildings. A key component of the architectural treatment has been the repeated use of steel mesh over cladding. This has been applied on 3-dimensional forms to the major buildings and structures and in so doing creates a distinct and dramatic architectural impact. The project has recently received planning permission.
