Andrzej Kuszell DipArch RIBA
Partner
Andrzej Kuszell co-founded the practice in 1994. His previous experience ranged
through education, leisure, residential and major civic and defence developments.
In the last 15 years he has become an acknowledged expert and innovator in both
educational and leisure architecture. He has led a number of award winning projects
for Studio E, most notably the Swimming Pool and Girls' Boarding Houses at Haileybury,
the green exemplar Larmenier and Sacred Heart Primary School and the City of London
Academy, Southwark which won the 2006 Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award.
Recently completed projects under his direction include the £30 million and multi
award winning City Academy, Hackney, a £7.7 million extension to the high profile
Mossbourne Community Academy and concept model designs for sustainable schools in the
Middle East. His belief in placing the client at the heart of the process has broken new
ground in the engagement of young people in education projects. Currently involved across a
range of education commissions Andrzej is also a key member of Studio E's Education Design
Group engaged in design and technical reviews and in progressing the practice's overall education
portfolio. He is a member of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea's Architecture Appraisal
Panel.
David Lloyd Jones AADipl RIBA FRSA

David Lloyd Jones co-founded the practice in 1994. His previous experience
ranged from research and development into housing and university standards
to commercial centre city development. In the early 80s he was responsible
for the design of the seminal energy conscious NFU Mutual & Avon Insurance
Group's Head Office at Stratford upon Avon. He is an acknowledged expert and
innovator in energy conscious and sustainable architecture. David has led a
succession of sustainable projects including the Solar Office, Doxford International,
innumerable government sponsored R&D projects, and Beaufort Court, the first commercial
zero-emissions building in the world. Believing that there should be no distinction
between environmentally sound architecture and architecture of the highest quality he
has been responsible for a number of important projects in cultural, educational and
institutional sectors including the much acclaimed and award winning Grange Park Opera
House.
Current projects include the Pakistan Islamic Arts Institute in Lahore, a sports centre in
Hackney, the master planning of the City of London Freemen's School, a public swimming
pool and leisure centre in Hillingdon, and a pan-European high-insulating window R&D
project. He is a member of the RIBA Sustainable Futures Forum and the CABE Schools Review
Panel, and past member of the RIBA London Region Council. He has delivered numerous papers
at National and International conferences and contributed to a wide range of publications.
His book, Architecture and the Environment, published by Lawrence King Publishing, is
available in six languages.
Garry Stewart BSc BArch RIBA

Garry Stewart joined the practice in 1997 and was project architect for a number
of multi award winning projects including the Solar Office at Doxford International,
the regeneration of Emslie Horniman Pleasance and the Girls Boarding Houses at
Haileybury College. He was also heavily involved during the design development
of the Sport England Optimum Sports Hall project and was project architect for
the ACS Cobham International School.
In 2000 Garry was appointed a Director of Studio E Architects and is now a Partner
of Studio E. He has since been responsible for directing a range of leisure,
education and energy and waste projects. This includes the completion of two
leisure facilities for Watford Borough Council, and two schools for Inverclyde
Council. Ongoing work includes a range of sports facilities, a secondary school
in Blackburn, and a series of innovative waste management and sustainable energy
facilities across the country. Whilst Garry works across a range of sectors he has
sole responsibility for our portfolio of work in Scotland and our energy and waste
sector of work.
Bruce Sounes BArch PG Dip

Since joining Studio E Architects 11 years ago Bruce has been involved in a range of educational and sports and leisure projects. He initially worked as senior architect on the American Community School Sports Centre and then on Studio E's first Academy in Southwark for the City of London. As project architect he headed up a new sports facility for Rugby School as well as a youth sports building in Southwark. Made associate in 2005 Bruce was involved in a broader portfolio of projects that included two sports centres in Watford and Inverclyde Schools in Scotland. Most recently has been working closely with Partner, Andrzej Kuszell, on two new Academies in Wembley and Tunbridge Wells and on design concepts for schools in the Middle East. Within the practice Bruce is also responsible for overseeing the management of the IT systems.
Mark Phillips BA(Hons) Dip Arch Dip Ap RIBA

Mark joined the practice bringing with him over six years of experience at senior level.
He has worked on predominantly education led projects through his career to date although
he does have experience in other sectors including auditoria, commercial, residential and
urban design projects.
Mark worked on the HQ for Suffolk County Council in Ipswich, the design of which
encouraged new ways of working as well as incorporating a large photovoltaic installation
and rain and grey water recycling and the refurbishment and fit out of early 20th century
buildings to provide teaching spaces, library and auditoria for the BPP Law School,
Manchester and London.
Mark has been the project associate on a combined primary school and nursery and a
secondary school on a separate site, all for Inverclyde Council. Both the projects
have a strong sustainable agenda and have been listed as exemplar schools by the Scottish
government. He has recently completed a series of school master planning studies and is
currently working on Witton Park High School and St. Bedes School.
