A new RAF visitor’s centre for the Group II Fighter Command Bunker, an important WWII heritage site in Uxbridge. The new facility is organised around a Hurricane and a Spitfire and displays events of the Battle of Britain which to a large extent were coordinated from the preserved historic Grade I Listed bunker located nearby. On a slope adjoining woodland, the new centre’s building form responds to and celebrates the dynamics of flight placing the two fighter plane exhibits within a space where the imagination can soar. Visitors have a vista onto the suspended planes from the moment they enter the building. The centre also includes an auditorium and a visitors’ refreshments area.
