Hackney Marshes North Pavillion is part of the London Borough of Hackney’s contribution to the 2012 Olympic legacy and provides club and changing facilities for playing fields, including 8 new cricket pitches, in the northern part of the Marshes. The Marshes are designated Metropolitan Open Land and Common Land.
Designs had to go through an extensive planning approval process. Feasibility study is considered different location options and had to balance the needs of the sports fraternity, ecological imperatives, those using the Marshes for recreational purposes, and the funding organisations.
The single storey building provides club facilities, 16 change rooms and maintenance accommodation. The project also included parking for 70 cars, coach and mini coach parking, cricket nets, extensive landscaping and extension to the existing designated ecological zones.
The building is carefully integrated into its setting and incorporates a turf roof, wall climbing plants and new tree and shrub planting. It finally opened in early 2018.
