Historically, the construction industry has been slow to innovate. It changes only as a reaction to circumstances. We believe that it is possible to anticipate economic, technological and social change and adjust to these ahead of time. From the outset we have been heavily involved in research and development, primarily in the environmental field, but also in the residential, sports and leisure, office and, most recently, in the education sectors. On a number of these projects Studio E has been instrumental in securing sponsorship funding from government, European Union or institutional sources.
We have initiated and participated in a succession of international and nationally funded environmental research projects. We have prepared, and contributed to, a number of research and development publications. We are regular contributors to conferences and workshops in this country and around the world. We have advised University Departments on their courses and reviewed the performance of architectural schools on behalf of the RIBA. We act as design and sustainability champions to BSF consortia. We serve on government panels and advise them on environmental policy and legislation, and recently appeared as an expert witness on sustainable school design before the Parliamentary Education Select Committee.
