Sutton Courtenay Energy for Waste (EFW)

The site for the Resource Recovery Park is between Sutton Courtenay and Appleford on Thames in Oxfordshire, adjacent to the Didcot Power station. The proposed development includes an Energy from Waste treatment facility to generate electrical energy from waste incineration, and an IBA recycling plant.

The EfW plant sits at the heart of the site and is the most prominent of the proposed structures in scale and process function. Whilst its envelope follows closely that required to enclose its internal processes, a ‘fractured’ and 'layered' architectural language has been developed to reduce its visual impact, this is further mitigated through the use of different cladding profiles and colours which add further interest and texture.
